FAQ

WHY IN ASHBURY?
Well, that is partly accident, as we have access to a great facility and the first support is from the local church there. However, it is central to city (about 15 minutes) and many other high density areas of the Inner West and South West.

In future, we hope to have groups meeting in various parts of Sydney, NSW and interstate.

WHO CAN COME?
Essentially anyone is welcome to come, however it caters for those in the services and their families. Yes, families are part of this. We don't yet have child minding facilities, but we are working on it.

WHY DO YOU NEED A SPECIAL MINISTRY FOR THOSE IN THESE SERVICES?
We need a special ministry because the type and conditions of work often isolate emergency service workers from traditional church networks. Most churches operate on a strict 7 day cycle, which leaves shift workers missing many events or regular chances for community.

Additionally, the nature of the work is not something we can always feel free to discuss with those who have little or no understanding of what we go through in our jobs. This minisitry is a place where mutual trust and respect is possible from the very start, as we all share similar experiences.

UPCOMING EVENTS 2016

000 ministries meets once a month at various places around Sydney and provides online resources to those in the emergency services all over the world.

Mark Layson is the Senior Minister at St Matt's Ashbury.  Before going into full time ministry, Mark served as both a Police Officer and Firefighter for around 11 years.  He then trained for ministry at Moore College in Newtown before working as a Youth Minister in Miranda.  Ashbury has been home to Mark, his wife and 3 kids since mid 2008.  Mark is passionate about Jesus, wanting everyone to not just know about Him, but to truely know Him as their own Lord, saviour and friend.  Along with ministering at St Matt's, Mark has been involved in setting up a support network for those in the Emergency services and has led him to become a part-time Ambulance Chaplain. Mark pretends he still does triathlons, loves coffee and wants to see God's kingdom grow.

WHAT WE DO

MEET
We meet on the last Wednesday of the month at 2 different times so that no matter what sift you are working that day, you should not be prevented from attending. We have identical meetings at 1pm for lunch and then from 2pm have a chance to discuss a topic from the bible. In the evening we start at 7:30pm with supper and networking at 8:30pm.

2011 saw the start of this exciting new project with the following 3 main aims::

SUPPORT
There are sometimes these professions that are hard to cope with. The ongoing effects of a traumatic scene or just the isolation caused by siftwork can take its toll. We are forming networks of more and less experienced people to suport each other in the work place and in everyday civilian life. As well we are commencing a network of those able to offer pastoral and practical care in times of need.

ENCOURAGE
Not every day is a bad day, many days we just need the encouragement of others to keep growing in faith. We will be encouraging each other by word, deed and most especially through the bible. Each month we will open up the bible for discussion and talk. We will also have a time where someone will pray for us in our occupations - generally and specifically. No-one will be asked to pray out loud if this is uncomfortable, but the ability to ask for prayer anonymously will be available.

OUTREACH
The last century has seen a reduction in the numbers of people who attend church or have an active faith. However, people are still very spiritually hungry. We aim to share the good news of reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ with our friends, family and collegues in a way that is applicable and relevant. We are plan a larger event each year specifically to invite curious friends and family to.  This year the NSW Treasurer will address us at our July meeting at Chapter House in St Andrew's Cathedral, Bathurst St, Sydney.

We would be so excited for you to join us!!

WHO WE ARE

000 Ministries is a non-denominational group for those who work in the Ambulance, Fire, Police or shift-working doctors and nurses, their friends and family. It is a ministry that was started from nothing in 2011, but hopes to grow as it supports and encourages more and more people of faith in these professions.

The group holds that Jesus is God's son, sent to provide us a way back to him. Jesus was not only an historical man, he was also fully God. We are able to discover Jesus in the pages of The Bible, which is God's authoritative word. We hold to the beliefs as outline in "The Nicene Creed"*

The founder of the ministry is Mark Layson. He currently serves as the pastor of a small Inner West church in Ashbury. Mark, however, spent the best part of 11 years serving in the NSW Police Force and The NSW Fire Brigades (now NSW Fire & Rescue).

*THE NICENE CREED*
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven & earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord,
Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father.
God from God,
Light from Light,
true God from true God
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him, all things were made.
For us and for our salvation,
he came down from heaven;
he was incarnate of the Holy Spirit
and the Virgin Mary
and became truly human.
For our sake, he was
crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death
and was buried.
On the third day, he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the
right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom wil have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the
Father and the Son
is worshipped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in only holy,
universal and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the
forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
